Port of Spain, Trinidad, May 23, 2025: At a media launch hosted in partnership with Republic Bank, at the Queen’s Park Oval on May 23, 2025, the Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society (TTCS) announced the return of its Batting Against Cancer Cricket Fete Match as one of the anchor events for its 2025 Relay for Life commemoration. After its successful inaugural reception last year, the initiative returns as part of TTCS Relay for Life roster of events that also includes a Luminaria Celebration.
The TTCS Relay for Life is the national iteration of a wider global effort to honour cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, promote healthier lifestyles, and provide essential support services to individuals and families affected by the disease.
One of the main TTCS Relay for Life events this year will be the Batting Against Cancer Cricket Fete Match, set to take place on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain. The initiative involves a T20 hard ball face-off between top cricket clubs across Trinidad and Tobago and a special All-Star team featuring professional players such as Rayad Emrit, Imran Khan, Anisa Mohammed, Jason Mohammed, Britney Cooper, and Leeann Kirby, among others.
Every Relay for Life event also culminates in a Luminaria Ceremony, which honours loved ones lost to cancer and those currently battling the disease. This year, the Luminaria ceremony will take place on Sunday, July 20, 2025.
At the media launch, TTCS Chairman, Robert Dumas expressed “I invite every one of you to stand with us in this fight against cancer. Your participation, your support, and your presence will make a difference. Join us in celebrating life, supporting our fellow citizens, and creating a future where cancer no longer casts a shadow over our lives.”
Republic Bank is the title sponsor of the TTCS Relay for Life through its Power to Make A Difference programme – a longstanding commitment to corporate social responsibility and community transformation. At the media launch, Nigel Baptiste, President & Managing Director of Republic Bank, shared “As a signatory to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Banking, and a proud advocate of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we align ourselves wholeheartedly with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, because health is not a privilege, it’s a right. A right we must all continue to protect, promote, and pursue together.”
He continued “That is the heart of Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. It is more than a fundraiser. It is a beacon of hope. A celebration of survivors. A tribute to those we’ve lost. And a call to action for every one of us who dares to believe in a future free from cancer.”
Proceeds from the event will go toward cancer research, education, early detection campaigns, and support services for patients and their families.
The public is invited to come out and be part of this impactful initiative. For more information on this event, please call Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society at 280-3353 or email projects@cancer.tt
